It seems like hemp oil is a miracle oil. All that it takes is a little research before you start asking if there’s anything that hemp oil can’t do. You might be able to add improving the quality of your hair to the list. How can this oil improve the feel and overall appearance of your hair?

Hemp Oil Improves the Quality of Your Scalp

Did you know that the condition of your scalp plays a big role in the health of your hair? Unfortunately, it’s true, and people with skin conditions on their scalps, such as eczema and psoriasis, often struggle with brittle hair. The reason is that these conditions choke out hair follicles, killing the strands at the roots.

However, recent studies support the claim that hemp oil can improve eczema, psoriasis, and other skin conditions. This is partially thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. The cannabidiol in this oil is where these characteristics come from.

Studies also show that people who use this oil make their scalps more resistant to infections. This is an important benefit because dandruff is usually the result of eczema, dermatitis, or a fungal infection.

Most people just assume that dandruff is the result of extremely dry skin, which is why hydrating shampoos and hair oils don’t always work. Hemp oil, on the other hand, makes the scalp more resistant to infection.

Hemp Oil Contains the Nutrients That Hair Needs to Grow

Hemp Oil Contains the Nutrients That Hair Needs to Grow
Applying a small amount of hemp oil to the scalp provides the hair with nutrients.

Hair requires certain nutrients in order to grow lush and strong. However, most shampoos and hair oils fail to deliver the nutrients that hair craves. Once again, that’s where hemp oil can help.

In fact, this oil contains vitamins, proteins, and fatty acids that your hair needs to grow. These include omega-6, omega-3, and omega-9 fatty acids. When you apply hemp oil directly to your scalp, you deliver these necessary nutrients to the source.

Why does hair need fatty acids and proteins to grow? The reason is that it’s made of keratin; nearly 90% of keratin is protein. Finding ways to add fatty acids into your diet is the best way to grow hair. However, studies show that applying oils with fatty acids and proteins directly to the hair and scalp help too.

The Differences Between Hemp Oil and Hemp Seed Oil

You may believe that the terms “hemp oil” and “hemp seed oil” are interchangeable, but they aren’t. Knowing the differences between them is important when it comes to improving the quality of your scalp and hair.

Hemp seed oil, as the name suggests, comes from hemp seeds. They contain little to no CBD. Since the anti-inflammatory properties of CBD encourage hair growth, having no CBD in the oil is not ideal.

On the other hand, hemp oil comes from the stalk of the hemp plant, which contains a high amount of CBD but low amount of THC. In order to sell products that have CBD in them legally, they must contain less than 0.3% THC. For that reason, getting the oil from the stalk is important.

However, these differences don’t mean that hemp seed oil isn’t good for the scalp. It can still hydrate, but you lose many of the additional benefits that come with hemp oil.

How to Apply

There are a few ways to apply hemp oil directly to your hair. Here are a few tips that make it easier:

  • Add this oil to your hair dye. Hair dye is already hard on your hair. You can protect it by adding a little hemp oil to the mix.
  • Apply this oil to your hair before bed. Simply massage a few drops of hemp oil into your hair before you go to sleep. In the morning, you can rinse it out in the shower.
  • Purchase shampoos that have hemp oil in them. This is one of the simplest ways to add this oil to your hair. This method doesn’t require you to mix or measure anything: just apply and rinse.

Use Hemp Oil to Improve the Quality of Your Scalp and Hair

While relatively new to mainstream hair care, hemp oil is making a splash in a big way. By working this oil into your hair care routine, you can have fuller and lusher locks. To learn more about taking care of your hair and scalp, check out our other articles.
