Hydroxatone Overview

Can you get surgical quality results but skip going under the knife? Hydroxatone says “Yes!”

Hydroxatone AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex is an anti-aging formula designed to help reduce the unsightly signs of aging. Clinical studies conducted by Hydroxatone show that within eight weeks of continuous use, many customers reported at least some of the positive anti-aging benefits listed below. Hydroxatone recommends that you pair the AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex with the matching cleanser and toner for best results.

A Closer Look at Hydroxatone

Very little information is available on the Hydroxatone website, though it proclaims its AM/PM Anti-Wrinkle Complex to be a best-seller. In descriptions elsewhere, Hydroxatone says it provides quick temporary results, as well as long-term beauty benefits with extended use. Allegedly a multi-functional, anti-aging powerhouse, according to their marketing, and apparently the eventual results are even better than a facelift.

By filling in the gaps between wrinkles, Hydroxatone makes an immediate improvement, which eventually grants a permanently enhanced smoothness and elasticity to the skin. It claims that by promoting the production of collagen and optimizing skin tone and texture, it can give results far beyond that of even the best plastic surgeons, at a fraction of the cost.

The average cost of a surgical facelift is nearly $8000, not including anesthesia or a hospital stay!

However, while these proclamations are all well and good, most skin creams boast about their anti-aging ability, but very few claim to be better than surgical results. Hydroxatone does.

That is a bold statement, and sadly, most consumers say it isn’t one that delivers as advertised. Many user reviews say that Hydroxatone made a visible improvement on their skin, but more effective than surgery? Not quite.

Positives

  • Helps reduce discoloration, uneven skin tone, and hyperpigmentation
  • Lessens the appearance of crow’s feet
  • Gradually fades forehead wrinkles

Negatives

  • Largest majority of ingredients are for SPF, not wrinkle reduction
  • Does not fulfill its grand promises
  • Not a satisfactory source of full spectrum SPF
  • Some customers reported a greasy residue

Key Ingredients

Some of Hydroxatone’s featured ingredients have been independently verified as effective for improving skin’s texture and tone, as well as reducing the appearance of fine lines. Other ingredients function as effective skin moisturizers and It is unclear, however, whether there are enough of these helpful ingredients within this product to provide the desired results for customers.

Also, smart consumers who examine the product label carefully will notice that the active ingredients listed on the product label are sunscreens, not wrinkle fighters.

Matrixyl 3000

This popular cosmetic chemical simulates the synthesis of collagen forms and peptide, which result in an alleged “super peptide”. In doses as low as two percent, Martixyl 3000 has been shown to reduce skin sagging across 91% of participants in a scientific study. However, manufacturers use above and below the recommended percent concentration, depending on their budget.

Argireline

An incredibly popular peptide, Argireline works on the chemical level, absorbing into the skin and neutralizing some of the contractions in facial muscles. It has been called “Botox in a Jar” not only because of the effect, but because it is derived from the botulism toxin. But unlike Botox, Argireline is not a toxin, and is much gentler on the facial muscles.

Hyaluronic Acid

This substance is found in our skin naturally, but can be manufactured or harvested for topical skin care. The primary function of Hyaluronic Acid in our skin is to hold water, which is what it does in creams such as this one as well. It is an ultra moisturizer, and helps to keep all of the water we already have in our skin from evaporating as readily.

Ceteareth-20

A chemical like ceteareth-20 is a strange find on an ingredient list which seems to pride itself on being so wholesome and chock full of natural extracts. Ceteareth-20 is the exact opposite of those. As a manufactured chemical fatty alcohol, its purpose makes sense; to combine all of those extracts and fats into a smooth emulsion.

But while it is derived from a natural source (usually coconut oil), there is a possibility for contamination during the refining process, which can yield toxic allergens and carcinogens. It has been deemed safe for use by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Assessment Agency, but there is no way to be entirely certain of the quality or purity of Ceteareth-20, and whether or not it was refined properly.

Directions: How to Use Hydroxatone

The manufacturers claim that Hydroxatone is the only cream you’ll need in your medicine cabinet, and thus to start with a completely fresh, clean face. Wash your face with lukewarm water and gently pat dry. Then apply a dollop of product to your fingertips and dab across your face, placing the highest concentration in problem areas. Gently massage into the skin in small circles.

If you have sensitive skin that’s prone to irritation, please try a patch test on a usually unseen part of your skin at least 24 hours prior to applying Hydroxatone to your entire face. If redness, swelling, or irritation occur in the patch test, do not use on your face.

The Final Word on Hydroxatone

Hydroxatone talks a massive game with the claim that this product produces results better than surgery, but ultimately, it does not make the cut. With some questionable ingredients and an active ingredient list which seems to focus on some small amount of SPF rather than wrinkle fighters, it just doesn’t fulfill the grand promises it makes. Will it improve your skin quality? Maybe. Is it made of mostly natural extracts? Absolutely. But is it the best on the market and better than the rest? Hard no.
