Lancôme Rénergie Review

Lancôme Rénergie Overview

Fans of Lancôme have clamoured over Rénergie for decades over several reworks and iterations, but is today’s version hiding something behind the label?

Scientists at Lancôme have worked tirelessly to produce Rénergie anti-aging cream: a product which addresses the signs of aging on two levels. Once absorbed, its active ingredients help firm and plump skin and also work to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. However, there are two versions of this French-made product. One which is sold exclusively in the United States, and another which is distributed all over Europe. There are some clear variations between the two, but for this article, we will be discussing the common ground between them. The list of ingredients for each version is provided below for the sake of comparison.

A Closer Look at Lancôme Rénergie

Lancôme has been a leading luxury brand in giant in the beauty industry for over 80 years. They epitomize glamor and ooze elegance, with a touch of a certain je ne sais quoi that is distinctly French. This sort of long-term company reputation is not won over night, and the longevity of Lancôme speaks volumes for its quality alone. Still, even the biggest and best companies are not infallible, and not every product is perfect.

This particular cream is specialized for the eyes, and while you might think a company like Lancôme would happily afford a few clinical trials to prove the claims of their products, none have been conducted for this cream. Still, customer reviews seem pleased overall, with the overwhelming majority giving Lancôme Rénergie four stars or above.

Some companies hire reviewers for their opinions, so take reviews with a grain of salt.

Lancôme Rénergie Key Ingredients

While the EU generally has much stricter regulations when it comes to food and beauty additives, our researchers found that there are actually more parabens in the European ingredient list than the American one. The highlighted ingredients below are included in both versions, but the similarities and differences between the two make them seem almost like different products all together.

Glycerin

This lipid compound is the backbone of many a skin cream. It is widely popular as it is colorless, odorless, viscous, sweet-tasting, and non-toxic. These factors make it a perfect carrier for other ingredients, while still providing that smooth, silky sensation that one loves from a facial product. It is also a top notch moisturizer, keeping skin soft and protected.

Hydrogenated Polyisobutene

Another moisture protector, this synthetic oil prevents water from readily evaporating from the skin. It is often used as a mineral oil substitute and is popular in waterproof sunscreens because it allows SPF to remain active even when wet. This helps the cream to function well all day under makeup and sweat.

Caffeine

While it is awesome for charging you up in the morning, Caffeine can do more than just drive your cup of joe. It is a natural antioxidant and has been shown to have soothing properties when applied to the skin, especially when the skin is exposed to UV light. It may even help with cellulite or puffy eyes, though there is no definitive evidence for or against those benefits yet.

Ethylparaben

This is one of the only parabens the two different formulas share, and it isn’t a great commonality. This preservative does help a little to treat dry skin and is an antiseptic, meaning it keeps the product from spoiling. Sounds great, but Ethylparaben also carries the risk of increased chances of developing breast cancer. It is considered “safe” for use in cosmetics by the CIR Expert Panel, who claim that the low doses in cosmetics may have little to no effect. However, in a study published by the Journal of Applied Toxicology, 18 out of 20 malignant breast tumors showed high concentration of parabens.

Directions: How to Use Lancôme Rénergie

Lancôme recommends this product for daily use in conjunction with other additions from their product line for a full skin care regimen. Thoroughly wash and cleanse your face with warm water and mild soap, then pat try. Apply small dollops of cream to your facial skin, then rub into the skin using gentle circular motions. Allow to absorb and continue with your skin care routine.

As always, when using a new product for the first time, apply a small patch test on an indiscrete part of your skin and wait 24 hours. If no adverse reactions result from the test, go ahead with normal use.

The Final Word on Lancôme Rénergie

Not just any skin cream can claim to be on par with Lancôme. Despite a lack of trials, the brand and this cream clearly please their customers, and have for decades. But some iffy ingredients in both versions of this cream might make users think twice if they took a moment to read more closely. If the price isn’t enough to ostracize a great deal of potential customers, the presence of so many parabens should be.
