RevitaLift Radiant Smoothing Cream Cleanser review

L’Oreal RevitaLift Radiant Smoothing Cream Cleanser Overview

Every beauty routine starts somewhere, and L’Oreal believes it should be with their new RevitaLift Radiant Smoothing Cream Cleanser. We at LetsTalkBeauty agree that the base of any beauty routine should include a trusty cleanser, but is L’Oreal’s the best of the bunch?

With gentle exfoliation, nourishing ingredients, and radiance boosters, L’Oreal claims that this cleanser will remove all traces of impurities, excess sebum, and leftover makeup, leaving skin smooth and bright. It prepares the face for the day, and wipes the slate clean again at night. As the most affordable bargain of the line, it may well be the most important too!

A Closer Look at L’Oreal RevitaLift Radiant Smoothing Cream Cleanser

L’Oreal as a brand is known for their affordable approach to anti-aging. This cleanser is one of the most affordable products in the line, so it fits there. The cleansing power is present too. But the addition of parabens and other less desirable preservatives is cause for concern. We explore parabens and their dangers further on below.

Also of note is the particular odor of this cleanser. Most often, cleansers are not scented, since they are made in order to remove impurities in the first place. While this cleanser doesn’t claim to have any fragrance, which can be a great thing, the product itself has been found to smell ‘chemical’, and one customer noted it reminded her of the locker rooms in a public pool. Yikes. Not something that makes us incredibly eager to put this cream on our raw, unprotected skin.

At least 2 (or more if you need to fluff the word count) paragraphs which discuss the product in more detail.

RevitaLift Radiant Smoothing Cream Cleanser Ingredients

While we commend L’Oreal for adding a cleanser to their repertoire, this particular one isn’t our favorite. The main ingredients are industry standard, but nothing outstanding. Strangely, there are no anti-agers to be found, despite being part of the RevitaLift line. The handfuls of different parabens though were discouraging. While parabens are legal to be on the shelves and only looked down upon, we prefer not to take the risk.

Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate

This cleaning agent is derived from amino acids, and also is commonly utilized for skin-softening in cosmetics. It can be plant or animal-derived, or most often nowadays, can be produced synthetically. When produced synthetically, it is most often created from the fatty acids in coconut. It is considered ‘mild’ and ‘non-drying’ as a skincare agent, and ‘safe’ and ‘non-irritating’ in cosmetics. It is one of the very few cleansing agents which can naturally form a creamy-feeling lather.

Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer

Often shortened to AACP, this molecular oddity contains hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups, which are useful for combining phases. For those of us who don’t have a chemistry degree, that means this group of polymers can combine with water or oil, so it’s super useful for keeping diverse mixtures together. It is a common ingredient in sunscreens, moisturizers, cleansers, and lotions.

Butylparaben

The word ‘paraben’ at the end of any ingredient is not something we get excited about at LTB. While it is a common preservative and still deemed ‘safe’ by the FDA, research has shown that parabens can increase the risk for certain cancers, namely breast cancer. The FDA claims that the “negligible amount” of -parabens used in cosmetics is “likely” not enough to pose a problem. But why take the risk? We wouldn’t. 1

Citronellol

Derived most commonly from flowering plants like rose, geranium, and lemongrass, this naturally occurring scent ingredient is most often used in cosmetics to ‘mask’ unpleasant or chemical smells. If paired with a sweet smell, it will enhance the sweetness. It can be an allergen and/or light irritant, especially for sensitive skin. While it is considered safe for use in cosmetics there are restrictions on the concentration allowed. 2

Linalool

This terpene is legal to use in cosmetics, but only in very restricted amounts, as it can have negative effects on the human immune system. However, it is a major component of the essential oils found in many aromatic spices. Most of those spices also happened to be traditionally used as sedatives. It also repels mosquitos at a rate twice as strong as that of citronella.

The Final Word on L’Oreal RevitaLift Radiant Smoothing Cream Cleanser

L’Oreal’s RevitaLift line is known most for its mild and affordable approach to anti-aging for the every woman. This cleanser fits well in the line in that it shares the name and will do a decent enough job ridding the skin of buildup or impurities, but the parabens make us uncomfortable. Why even risk it when it comes to cancer? If you’re a fan of 100% safe, all-natural ingredients, we advise you maybe look elsewhere.
